Most people are probably familiar with Naughty Dog for their hugely popular Uncharted series; alternatively, the two parts of The Last of Us are also among the biggest titles of recent years. As part of the Game Awards 2024, a completely new game was announced with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
This time Naughty Dog will shoot you into space. In Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet you slip into the shoes of Jordan A. Mun. The bounty hunter is stranded on Sempiria, a planet whose communication with the rest of the universe was lost centuries ago. Every expedition there never returned, so Jordan wants to be the first to succeed in leaving.
Naughty Dog doesn't want to reveal more about the story, but there are smaller details about the gaming experience. In the best studio tradition, narrative should play an important role. The gameplay itself is said to be more gripping and in-depth than ever before. The trailer provides a first glimpse, in which we see Jordan beating up an opponent with an energy sword. So we can be curious to see how much Naughty Dog will move towards an action role-playing game or whether it will be a classic action adventure.
The music seems to be very important for the developers, so they teamed up with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (both from Nine Inch Nails). In the trailer, the soundtrack definitely exudes 80s vibes, which is no coincidence reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy.
According to studio head Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog has been working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet since 2020. A development like this needs to be financed, which is why there is some product placement in the trailer. Jordan's spaceship was built by Porsche, her shoes are from Adidas.
Naughty Dog is currently not revealing a release date for the PS5 game.
