NTUPRUCHER REMEDY is known for its profound stories with tragic characters.
Your new title FBC: Firebreak has nothing of all of this. Instead, the Control spin-off is to become Remedy's first advance in the direction of multiplayer titles in the thirty years of company history. Nevertheless, the developers also seem to feel comfortable outside of their usual fairway. At least the first pictures promise a humorous mix of co-op balls à la Left 4 Dead and the world of the Remedy universe.
FBC: Firebreak goes a slightly different path than most colleagues in the co-op shooter genre. In teams from three players you compete and shoot through the oldest house, which is already the scene ofwas. However, with a humor and a lightness that you look for a long time with the competition. But what is a “Firebreak”?
Who you gonna call?
When a fire breaks out, you get the fire brigade. If the wallet is stolen to you, you report it to the police. But what do you do if your supernatural artifacts go crazy while your multidimensional headquarters are overrun by an extra -world power? Then who do you call? Firebreak!
The last case may sound a little special, but the Federal Bureau of Control is standing before this problem. Six years after the events from Control, the oldest house is still in Lockdown mode and still flows into our dimension from all sides. All attempts to banish the foreign power have failed and so fast intervention troops are founded that are used wherever the situation threatens to escalate.
Due to the rather limited personnel situation (either dead, obsessed or locked up), the teams consist of all salary classes of the FBC. In addition to security forces, medium -sized management and secretary must also help. You could actually say “from the caretaker to director”, but unfortunately that is not true. We do not need to hope for well -known characters such as caretaker Ahti or director Jesse Faden. They seem to be otherwise busy and should not get an appearance in Firebreak for the time being.
In this way, people who have not played a control to have been forced to catch up with the "predecessor" should only be prevented to understand what is going on in Firebreak. This is commendable in itself, but you consider that there will be no campaign anyway, one or the other guest appearance during the jobs would have been nice. But who knows what Remedy is still in Easter Eggs and referred to the main game or planned at a later date.
The oldest trick in the house
In order to defend yourself to the hiss and other paranormal monstrosities, the FBC provides various normal and more unconventional weapons. Overall, you have the choice between three special crisis kits or loadouts consisting of a unique tool, an improvised device and an altered augment.
As tools, the fluid outlay with crank drive (practically an endless water cannon), a wrench for close combat or the electrocinetic load impactor. With the loading impactor you can catapult yourself into the air in the Pogo-Stick-Style, spin away the opponents or supply objects in the area with electricity.
These can be combined with a special object of power, the Altered Augment. These mighty objects are actually kept behind closed doors, but difficult times require desperate measures and so you will be assigned something supernatural extra bullets.
For example, the piggy bank, which you attach at the end of the wrench and swings around in front of you to add great damage to opponents with the flying coins. If the pig breaks, it unleashes a real tornado made of change that rages through your opponents and then withdraws into the self -repairing piggy bank until the next world parail.
The garden gnome is thrown near the enemies with the loading impactor and then generated a flash storm, the opponent stunned and surrounding the energy. Unfortunately, the dwarf does not differentiate between friend and enemy. So your colleagues may experience a shocking surprise.
The paranormal teapot can be attached to the fluid float with crank drive. This now shoots boiling water and causes burns. Team comrades also receive damage and the teapot does not even contain real tea. The only known order “Paper Chase” so far shows why you should still shower your buddies.
Paper is patient ... and fatal!
In one mission that can be seen, a paper war literally burns. A horde of wild notes rages through the oldest house and your Firebreak team moves out to process the post-its into paper mache.
The notes are attached to everything that gets in the way (are also detention notes), and that also includes this. Here a stop at a cleansing station or a brave shower from the fluid launch with crank drive helps here (hopefully then without a tea kettle). If you do not take care of the adhesive notes, they would like to open your field of vision until you are completely blind at some point.
Once you have fulfilled your first task, the door opens into the second area with a new goal and at the very end the boss fight against the large paper giant is still in the third room. Once you have done it, you make your way back to leave the area again as much as possible. Because even if the paper plague is defeated, the employees infected by the hiss still run through the corridors.
However, Firebreak should not be an extraction shooter. You will receive additional prey if you make it back into the elevator in one piece after your order, a mission is already considered successful if you have fulfilled your mission goal. Because nobody at FBC actually expects you to survive. You feel really valued there!
Conclusion
Firebreak blows a breath of fresh air into the world of co-op shooters!
Firebreak is full of cool ideas and seems to capture the humor of current remedy titles well. We have to do without the strength of Jesse, but the objects of power promise a decent degree of chaos and worn moments.
Objects such as the boombox, the opponents first attract and then exploded, are not particularly innovative in terms of play, but spray the typical control flair. But above all the Altered Augments offer a lot of potential for unique playing styles. It's a shame that there are only three different crisis kits at the start.
Remedy wants to do without a battle pass or rewards for daily logging in, but there should be a regular new content for Firebreak. We stay excited. There is still no precise release date, but it should be that far in the summer of 2025.
