Unboxing and first impression: a new Steam controller, but not from Valve

The controller and console accessories manufacturer Hori has published an officially steam-licensed controller.

Here I unpack the "Horipad" for Steam and share my first impression with you. At the same time, there is a small comparison to the first Steam controller from Valve.

What I noticed directly:

- The controller is very light and therefore feels a bit cheap.

- The controls, such as buttons and analog sticks, feel good.

- There are a total of four macro keys. Two back and two front.

- In the video I discover a switch on the back I believed that he changed the reaction curve of the sticks or triggers. In fact, you switch between analog and digital triggers. The physical activation path does not change and remains quite short.

- The controller can switch between Steam Input and Xinput.

More features:

- Gyroscope for motion controls

- wirelessly with a USB receiver. A 3-meter USB-C cable is also included.

- The battery life should be 12 hours.

- The analog sticks are capacitive, as with the Steam Deck.

- The controller weighs only 185 grams.

I will play with the controller for a while and then my test follows Gamestar Tech. Many thanks to Kevin vonDecky.net, who made this controller available to me free of charge for test purposes!
