YouTube: Numerous videos may soon sound different - because an AI synchronizes them

YouTube is driving the AI transformation of the video platform.

YouTube is once again turning the video platform inside out: a little more than a year after the original announcement of new AI features, parent company Google is introducing oneavailable on a larger scale.

This is an automatic synchronization function in which the audio track is translated and set to music by an artificial intelligence. With this, YouTube is taking the next step after the AI-generated subtitles that are offered in numerous videos.

The feature is now available for “hundreds of thousands of channels” in the YouTube partner program that focus on knowledge and information content, such asGoogle explained in the blog post. The aim is to make it easier than ever to engage with content and its creators, even if you don't speak the language.

  • The supported translations of English-language videos are German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Indonesian and Hindi.
  • Videos in these languages can also be translated into English the other way around.

YouTube itself emphasizes that the technology is still in an early development phase.

An effort is made “to make the translation as accurate as possible, but it may happen that the translation is not entirely correct or that the dubbed voice does not accurately reflect the original speaker.” YouTube shows an example video of what the whole thing should look like (or sound like) in the form of a French gratin recipe, among other things.

Note: If it doesn't work for you straight away, you can find the setting in the bottom right gear menu under "Audio Track".

For video creators, the AI feature works fully automatically. After uploading a video, the original language is recognized and, if compatible, the synchronization is automatically created in the supported languages.

After all, the creators can choose for themselves whether the feature is even published in the respective video. In the future, AI synchronization will also be expanded to other video genres.
