Chatgpt can do some things for you, that much is well known, but I recently used the app for something that I have never seen before. I was surprised how well it actually worked.
Chatgpt as a dictation device - a gamuchanger?
When I was a few weeks agoI came up with the idea of using Chatgpt as a dictation device in order to be able to write down details about performance.
I simply opened the chatt app and started the language chat function. Unfortunately, I quickly realized that this is not the right way because Chatgpt is reluctant to listen to for a long time without answering what kind of dictation device is rather impractical.
However, the solution to the problem was just under a centimeter next to the language chat function. There are two functions that take up your voice: the language chat and the language input.
The language input is exactly the function I needed.
Chatgpt as a dictation device - that's how it works
In the chatt app you will find a microphone button at the bottom right. If you press it, you will be absorbed until you stop the recording. Your spoken is then transcribed and inserted into the text field.
From here it is very simple: You just say chatgpt what exactly you want to do and give a few background information with you - how you would do it with a text prompt.
For example, I briefly clarified that in this I promptly my thoughts on the perfomance and technology ofWrite down and I want Chatgpt to summarize these thoughts and put them in a suitable structure.
The result: I was able to play as hoped for and also express my observations. In the end I had a nice little overview and were all the more happy about this idea. Sometimes it's the little things in life, right?
This is to be considered
As practical as the function is, it also has limits. Fit in a prompt to Chatgpt, for exampleonly
around 4000 characters. So you can't dictate for hours.
In addition, Chatgpt doesn't understand everything perfectly, but the mistakes are limited. So it happens that in the summary there is a word afterwards that has no business there. However, I quickly recognized which words were meant.
Are there alternatives?
The dictation device idea is not necessarily brand new, so much is clear to me. Nevertheless, the apps that not only play or transcribe what the recorded are, but also summarize and structure quite rare.
Nevertheless, there are a couple who all have their own strengths and weaknesses:
- Otter.ai: Takes on language, transcribed and wrote summaries. At the moment, however, only in English
- Fathom: Transcribed conversations and automatically creates summaries with AI that highlight the most important points and tasks.
I personally like Chatgpt for this task, because Chatgpt dominates significantly more in addition to summaries. Information and data recorded could be inserted directly into a code if you use the function as a programmer to give just one example.
Besides, I don't have to download an app, because I have chatt on my cell phone anyway.
What about you? Do you also find the small function practical? What would you use for?
