When I bought a new TV in 2014, I was blown away: the Samsung smart remote at that time had a cursor - like on the PC.
They were used like a Wii controller:Show with the handle on the screen and select icons on the screen with a button. Super intuitive!
And today? Today I still strike with remote controls that prefer to rely on 45 individual buttons instead of a slim shape and a cursor. In my opinion, this would simplify so much.
Dear buttons instead of hands
The above shows the remote control of my current TV (). A gray, ugly bar with 45 buttons, of which I really need a maximum of ten pieces.
It was no different in Grandpa's times. Now there are manufacturers that produce small attractive remote controls, for example the Samsung's smart remotes:
The problem: The South Koreans have gotten rid of the mouse pointer mentioned at the beginning. Why? I can only speculate about that. The cursor was probably not accepted.
There is a manufacturer that holds up the flag:Lg. The Magic Remote dated remote control has had the mouse pointer for years and I was always enthusiastic when I was allowed to play around with a test device.
What makes the cursor so good for me?
At first it may seem strange to vibrate the remote control like a wand (although it didn't bother anyone at the Nintendo Wii), but navigating it would make it so much easier.
- Less buttons:Instead of having a dedicated button on the handle for every small mini function, everything could be loosened through the software.
- Faster navigate:Do you want to go all the way down in the option list? Arrow button down, arrow button down, arrow key down ... With a cursor it doesn't take a second.
- Better text input:Instead of clicking on the keyboard like Anno then, you have entered a password or search term for YouTube faster via cursor.
- Intuitive operation:Not even I know where certain options are hiding with every TV. So I have to close the menu umpteen times or take a step back. With a cursor I would be much faster because I can intuitively show where I want to go.
My argument has been for years:TV has now become the real computer. Why don't we serve you how?
We navigate through operating systems, click through countless strokes in software from streaming providers and look awkward by screen keyboard for YouTube videos. TV has become so much more complex in recent years.
So why not finally revolutionize the old remote control?
Even Nintendo seems to have arrived in the new millennium, because you rumored that you can use the console's joy-cons as a mouse, as you can see in the trailer:
Not everything is mouse that clicks
Now LG has been driving the cursor rail for many years, but not everything is perfect here either. OnRedditAlways ask LG TV owners how to get rid of the annoying arrow.
- They are annoyed by the mouse arrow that pops up when moving the remote control.
- The arrow remains visible on the screen too long.
- The mouse pointer is too slow and imprecise for you.
I have already written two columns on the subject of remote control, because things are always a stimulus topic for me.
In the course of this article, I finally downloaded a universal remote control app. Maybe the software can appease my displeasure. You will read it here on Gamestar.
Where are you, fellow sufferers? Are you similar with the remote control? Or are you satisfied? Do you know the mouse cursor from the past or are you LG TV owners? Like to write it in the comments.
