I tried 10 arcade controllers-this is my new favorite

The Victrix Pro Ko Leversen is my new favorite for Fighting Games.

Rarely has a controller convinced me as much as this one. The Victrix Pro Ko Leversen from Turtle Beach is a so-called all-button controller. Such are arcade controllers in which there are four directions instead of a digital joystick.

Such controllers are particularly suitable for fighting games, which is why they are my first choice for games likeandare. After over 10 different models, I have now found my new favorite.

Transparency note:Turtle Note made the Victrix Pro Ko Leveress for the test free of charge. The manufacturer had no influence on the content of the article and did not get any insight before the test was published. There was no obligation to report.

What I like

Processing and design

Processing:The Victrix Pro Ko Leveress is very flat and light. So he finds space in almost every backpack. It is even included in the scope of delivery.

The front panel is made of aluminum and is slightly bent for the wrists. The back is completely rubberized and ensures that the controller sits firmly on my table or on the lap.

In addition, the keys feel very high quality and responsive. When processing this controller, I can't find anything bad.

Design:The edges of the button are transparent and illuminated. This not only looks chic, but can also help as an orientation to play in the dark. Apart from that, the design of this controller is rather inconspicuous, which I don't find bad.

Key and switch

The most important thing about an all button controller is of course the built-in buttons. Thanks to the Cherry MX silver switches used, they feel extremely precise and satisfactory.

The best feature is the support of various keynayouts. Most all button controllers offer you a permanently presented layout. The most common is the 12-button layout with eight action keys and four directions. At the other spectrum there are four additional buttons that can be freely occupied.

The Victrix Pro Ko Leversel leaves me the choice of which layout is most to me. If a button is not required, it can simply be removed and stowed inside. This is really simple and does not require an additional tool:

  1. Solve the four lock switches on the back.
  2. Pulls off the front cover by pulling it up on the sides.
  3. Pull the key cap with the included switch powder and then the switch.
  4. Stowed the button in one of the storage slots.
  5. If one of the metal caps puts the gap that has just become free.
  6. Brings the front cover back and lock the four switches on the back.

The exchange of buttons is literally in no time.

I personally like to play with a 14-button layout because I like to activate two functions in Tekken 8 at just one push of a button. It is really practical that this arcade controller gives me the choice between the different layouts.

By the way:According to Turtle Beach, the buttons in cooperation with Street-Fighter legendMusherdeveloped.

In the meantime, I like Arcade controllers with keyboard buttons much better than those with classic buttons from manufacturers such as Sanwa Denshi and Seimitsu. Such are used in Japanese arcade machines, but require more space. All button controller with keyboard switches can be built much thinner and do not pay anything to precision and reaction speed.

Lock switch for tournaments

On many fighting game tournaments you lose the current round when you pause. It doesn't matter whether it was an oversight or intention. The Victrix KO Pro Leveress has a switch at the top right with which all buttons in the upper row, including the menu button, can be blocked.

Configurable without software

If we are already in the upper row at the buttons: The button with the label »M« makes me cover the additional buttons without any additional software. With the button with the sun symbol you switch between different lighting modes.

A three-way switch on the left let you switch between PS5, PS4 and PC mode.

3.5 mm connection for headsets

In addition to the mode switch, you will find a 3.5mm jack plug for headsets. This is not a matter of course, especially with Arcade controllers.

What I don't like

Non -wireless

Unfortunately, the controller can only be used wired. I can understand that due to the e-sports focus, but I would have practically found a 2.4 GHz dongle for playing at home.

If you want to use the controller in the living room, be it on the PS5 or on a living room PC, you will have to lay a cable across the room. I actually stumbled across it and catapulted my gaming handheld to the floor.

Worth knowing about the test

Possible alternatives

Razer Kitsune:The all button controller from Razer is also nice and flat and comes with optical Razer switches that promise an even faster reaction speed. Unfortunately, only the 12-button layout is available.

HAUTEPAD 42 T16:With the HaubePad T16 you can save a lot of money. As the name suggests, the all button controller has 16 buttons. Linear low-profile switches are also used, which are also hotswappable.

Price-performance:The Turtle Beach Victrix Pro Ko Leversen is not cheap. At the same time, it is worth every penny if you like to play fighting games and are on tournaments or at friends.
