I fed my Tamagotchi for 6 months and was happy when it was dead

When Bandai announced a new Tamagotchi in the summer of 2023, I was immediately fire and flame. I am very susceptible to nostalgia and retro game stuff anyway-so it grabbed me immediately.

In my childhood I had such a toy myself, but honestly a clone, since the original was not a bargain at the time.

The Tamagotchi Uni triggered a small hype and my YouTube timeline was full of suitable video reviews, tips and so on.

Where the nostalgiumrip started

Last year my girlfriend surprised me with the new toy for his birthday - and I was very enthusiastic.

In comparison to the original version, it comes with many new features, because of course a toy goes with time.

The current generation offers, among other things:

  • A color display
  • Many different types of Tamagotchi with different characters.
  • Several mini games
  • A "Tamerse" in which you can meet players all over the world and measure yourself at events.
  • DLCs with your own costumes, furniture, mini games and more.
  • New functions that are played through updates.
  • A babysitter mode

What inspired me particularly about the toy were the many content that I could only dream of in the 1990s.

You can earn "Gotchi Dollar" in mini games, which in turn can be invested in outfits, furniture or entire rooms.

There are also various activities and regular worldwide events with your own games in which you can measure yourself against other users.

Variety from DLCs and Co.

And when it gets boring, you can use a DLC that brings new figures, outfits and games. There are free of that, but also those who cost a few euros.

With one of the last updates, there was also a Pokémon-Go-like function, where you can find tamagotchis on the way and receive awards.

The device searches for WLAN networks nearby and spends a random figure per different network. The goal is, of course, to get everyone if possible. So you have to walk around a lot.

Everyday life catches up with me

So you can tell, I still rave a little about this little toy. However, at some point the point came when I could no longer endure it. In principle, this is related to two things.

On the one hand, I noticed how much time the Tamagotchi eats. I can remember that it was like that as a child.

In the new generation, however, the babysitter mode should help. In the mode, the Tamagotchi is looked after during the day without having to worry yourself.

However, this feature only works in a specified period (between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. or so in the shoot), which does not always match your own working hours or activities.

In addition, even taking care of it costs a lot of time.

After all, you have to feed the Tamagotchi, wash, send on a walks, play games - otherwise it will be unhappy and you don't want that. In adult age, with full work and partner, I have to say that it is not that easy.

On the other hand, something has become clear to me that I don't like at all: when technology makes me a guilty conscience.

Although the Tamagotchi is just a software, you humanize it because you see a small figure that you take care of.

And she cries, screams, is angry - like a person. So it happened that I felt bad when I parked the little guy with the babysitter for several days in a row or just forgot to feed him because I was on the way.

At some point the air was out

I did this with the Tamagotchi for six full months, although I actually had no desire after a few weeks. At some point the point came when I pulled a line.

My character had to go to the hospital several times due to acute "non -care" and actually landed in the cemetery at some point. Of course, the severe feelings of guilt also triggered in me - after all, I was now a murderer.

Then I did the only right thing: I switched it off.

A few weeks ago I turned it on again, but then had enough again after a few days. My realization: Apparently I'm just too old for that.

Conclusion: a nice toy - but no longer for me

For children, however, I see the Tamagotchi Uni as a cool toy. It offers significantly more functions and fun than the original version of 1996.

Whether you want to buy your child like this is of course on a different sheet.

Do you know the Tamagotchi Uni or maybe have it yourself? Do you sometimes get caught in the inner urge to buy an old toy? Or can you not do anything with such a stuff? Give me to know your experiences in the comments!
