In Dead Space you take on the role of Isaac Clarke, a ship systems engineer who is sent to the USG Ishimura, a massive mining ship. What initially looks like a normal rescue missiondegenerates into an absolute nightmare within a very short time.
The USG Ishimura is more than just a venue; rather, she isa labyrinthine monster with an almost personality of its own: Their abandoned, dark corridors and the constantly working apparatus and machines are strongly reminiscent of the Nostromo from the Alien universe. Both ships are huge, isolated machines that, once out of control, go from a safe symbol of space travel to a claustrophobic prison in the middle of the void of space.
