The cat is out of the bag:Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra cell phone models at its Unpacked Event in San José.
As expected, there are some improvements compared to last year's models, including in terms of performance and performance. Below we will show you the most important differences between the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S24.
More performance for the processor and graphics unit
The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy is used in all three Galaxy S25 models. In this special version for Samsung, the performance cores of the processor (CPU) are slightly higher than in the regular version.
Compared to the Galaxy S24 with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the new chipset offers 40 percent higher performance of the Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which is responsible for the AI functions.
There is also a 37 percent increase in CPU performance with better energy efficiency and a 30 percent increase in graphics unit (GPU) performance. In the graphics benchmark tool 3DMark, the Galaxy S25 achieved a score that was 40 percent higher.
Among other things, this should significantly improve ray tracing in games. In addition, a new API should ensure an 18 percent higher frame rate, while at the same time significantly lower GPU and CPU utilization (-22 percent and -10 percent).
The new Snapdragon 8 Elite also has another advantage for the new S25 series. It works more energy-efficiently, which means the battery life could also be longer.
Larger RAM
In addition to the CPU, the S25 series also gets more RAM. The basic models now have twelve gigabytes of RAM in each memory variant. The Galaxy S24 went on sale last year with eight gigabytes. Only the Plus and Ultra models had the higher configuration with twelve gigabytes.
Samsung is also installing an upgrade in the S25 Ultra. The new top model is now available in stores with 16 gigabytes.
Improved cooling system
Samsung has revised all models in the S25 series with regard to the integrated cooling system. The Galaxy S25 Ultra offers a 40 percent larger cooling chamber (vapor chamber) compared to its predecessor. For the S25 and S25+ this is 15 percent larger.
The advantage:With high power consumption, the smartphone can maintain performance for a longer period of time before it is reduced due to excessive temperatures. This can be an advantage, for example, in demanding mobile games in order to achieve a higher frame rate.
Thinner and lighter than the S24 series
All models in the Galaxy series offer thinner display bezels than their predecessors. Smartphones have also become somewhat lighter. The biggest difference here is with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which has 15 percent thinner edges and is 15 grams lighter.
Robusteres Display
The Galaxy S25 Ultra gets an even more robust display glass with the Corning Gorilla Armor2. It is said to be 29 percent more break-resistant than the previous generation.
New ultra wide angle camera
The camera system of the Galaxy S25 Ultra is largely similar to that of the S24 Ultra. The main camera has a resolution of 200 megapixels, the telephoto lens 50 megapixels. There are improvements in the ultra wide angle. This now has a resolution of 50 megapixels instead of 12 megapixels like the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
According to the manufacturer, this should, among other things, increase the quality of macro shots, with four times more details than the Galaxy S24 series. The performance in different lighting conditions and the general brightness range should also be optimized.
Better night shots thanks to the new ProVisual Engine
The new generation of camera and image processing “ProVisual Engine” is intended to ensure better night photos. Among other things, Samsung relies on a double analysis for noise reduction. In addition, exposure and dynamic range are said to have improved.
Video recordings primarily benefit from this: rigid and moving objects are processed separately, which is particularly beneficial for reducing image noise. But photos in poor light also benefit from the new chipset and image processing software.
New video features: Greater dynamic range, audio eraser and log videos
The S25 series gets a feature from the Fold series, namely 10-bit HDR. This means videos have four times the dynamic range.
The Audio Eraser is added as a new function. It uses artificial intelligence to remove or attenuate unwanted background noise. This works with voices, crowds, wind, music, nature sounds and noise.
In addition, the Galaxy S25 also offers log videos for the first time. This is essentially a counterpart to RAW photos - i.e. raw material that offers significantly more information than the ultimately compressed file. This increases the scope for post-processing when it comes to exposure and the like.

Better AI image editing with Snapdragon 8 Elite
The new chipset also enables improved image processing. There has been significant progress in the precision of the object eraser, which now works much more precisely and hallucinates less. The portrait studio also benefits and creates more realistic portraits with natural tones and facial expressions when using filters.
What do you think of the new features of the S25 series? Do you find an innovation particularly exciting or do none of the new functions knock your socks off? Please let us know your opinion in the comments.
