It's almost like money-former Sony CEO talks about PC releases of PlayStation titles

The gaming landscape has changed significantly in recent years and an end to this trend is not in sight.

While there was a strong separation between Playstation, Xbox and PC games some time ago, it is continuously softened.

Sony has been bringing since 2022Former PS4 and PS5 exclusive titles on the PC.Even appeared at the Playstation 5 and Steam at the same time.

A former Sony CEO has now revealed more about this change of strategy.

PC ports are for Sony like "Printing money"

Who speaks there?ShirthowShuYoshida worked on Sony for years in the game division and, among other things, was president of the umbrella organization of all development studios in the Japanese company. He belonged to the team that developed the first Playstation and was also involved in numerous consoles and titles afterwards.

In January, Yoshida resigned from Sony after more than 30 years. In an interview withSacred Symbols+(viaPush Square) has now spoken to PlayStation over the past few years.

That's what it's about:In addition to the release of the PS5, the focus during this period was the increasing abolition of brand exclusivity.

Sony has been with since 2022,,,,,andbasically all currently important brands with the exception ofpublished on the PC.

Yoshida himself had probably initiated this development earlier. However, the company could only be convinced with the argument that PC players might buy a Playstation console in the future once they were fans of the exclusive brands.

There are also large markets such as those in China, in which consoles play a significantly smaller role than in Europe or the USA.

To achieve this, according to Yoshida, Sony had to give up the exclusive compulsion at least partially.

Whether these strategies ultimately worked, is unclear. Either way, Sony has apparently earned a lot of money with the PC ports.

Since such ports are significantly cheaper than the development of completely new games, Yoshida even speaks of the fact that it would be "almost like money".

However, the players themselves also benefit from these profits. The additional revenue can be financed by new major productions.

The costs for the development of AAA titles have exploded in recent years. It is questionable whether these can only be covered by sales on a console. And as long as Sony does not stick to the compulsory account, the PS5 games are also very well received by PC players.
