The upcoming expansion was first announced at Minecraft Live 2024 and offers lots of content, from unique biomes to a new, scary mob. We have put together the most important information for you.
Was ist The Garden Awakens?
The Garden Awakens is a so-called “Game Drop” that is released for both the Java Edition (version 1.21.4) and the Bedrock Edition (version 1.21.50). To unlock the content, you have to activate the “Winter Drop” experiment mode in the Java Edition or adjust your level dat file manually. In the Bedrock Edition, the update is integrated directly via automatic update.

The new content at a glance
1. The Pale-Garden-Biome
The new biome “Pale Garden” (German: Blasser Garten) is the star of the update. Here you can expect:
- Pale Oak Trees:Trees with a pale wood tone.
- Pale Moss &Pale Hanging Moss:New moss blocks that emphasize the dark atmosphere of the new area.
- Eyeblossom:A bright flower that shimmers in the darkness.
2. The Creaking Heart and the Creakings
The Creaking Heart is a new block that you can encounter in the Pale Garden:
- It activates when placed between two Pale Oak Logs.
- Once activated, the new mobs called Creakings will spawn at night.
Meanwhile, the Creakings are not for the faint of heart:
- They only move when you look away - a mechanic that is strongly reminiscent of various horror characters, such as SCP-173 from the SCP universe or the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who.
- They can only be defeated by destroying the associated Creaking Heart.
3. Pale Oak & Resin
You can find the Pale Oak wood type by felling Pale Oak Trees in the Pale Garden. It comes with a variety of build options:
- Planks, steps, stairs and fences.
- Signs (both normal and hanging versions).
- Doors, trap doors and boats – even with an integrated chest.
There is also the golden brown resin (German: Harz), which you find when you destroy a Creaking Heart. Not only can you use this to build, but you can also make your armor look a little nicer.
When does it start? The Garden Awakens will be released on December 3, 2024. With the new biome and eerie creakings, the update could particularly delight fans for whom the Enderman wasn't scary enough. And between the holidays at the end of December there should be enough time for most people to have fun in the new area.
