New cheap cell phone has a larger battery than an iPad Air - and is still below 8 mm thin

Honor has presented a new budget cell phone, which is supposed to convince with a very long battery life. The cell phone is still very slim, but compromises had to be made at other corners.

That is why this is important:The Honor Power shows that cell phones with large batteries do not necessarily have to look like a power bank with an integrated display. The device could be suitable for you if a long battery life is most important to you.

8,000 mAh and still below 8 mm thin:Honor has packed a battery in the cell phone that is even larger than that in the iPad Air (2024) in the 11-inch variant (7,554 mAh). However, the cell phone is only 7.98 mm thin and has the usual form factor of today's smartphones. Visually, it reminds something of Huawei and Apple's smartphones.

  • It is also only 209 grams.
  • For comparison: thatIs an outdoor smartphone with an 8,680 mAh battery and is not only significantly unwieldy, but also heavier with 375 grams.
  • The Honor Power can also be charged with a charging capacity of 66 watts.

The screen also convinces:A 6.78-inch amoled screen with a maximum brightness of 4,000 nits is used.

  • The maximum screen repetition rate is 120 Hz, but is unfortunately not variable.
  • The resolution of 1224 x 2700 pixels ensures a high PPI of around 437.
  • There is an optical fingerprint sensor under the display.

Performance and software:Inside, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen3, which was manufactured in the 4-NM process, performs. This should bring enough performance for everyday life and, thanks to its energy efficiency in combination with the large battery, ensure a long term. The following RAM memory configurations are available:

  • 8/256 GB
  • 12/256 GB
  • 12/512 GB

Magicos 9, which is based on Android 15, is preinstalled as the operating system.

The cameras had to be saved:In addition to the battery, the camera system also uses a lot of space in a cell phone, and this is exactly where Honor had to make a compromise to make room for the 8,000 mAh battery.

  • The main camera has a resolution of 50 megapixels on a 1/1.56-inch sensor. The aperture is f/2.0. This technical data is almost identical to those of the main camera in Nothing Phone 2. The image quality of the main camera should therefore be quite acceptable.
  • The cell phone has an ultra-wake angle camera, but the sensor has a very low resolution of only 5 megapixels. It is not yet known how big this image sensor is, but it should be tiny. Accordingly, the image quality should not be particularly good.
  • The front camera has a resolution of 16 megapixels with an F/2.5 aperture.

Price and availability:So far, the Honor Power has only been published in China. The equivalent of it costs around 240 euros. It is currently not known when and whether it will make the jump to us.
