The Gothic remake is getting closer and closer - the role-playing game is scheduled to appear by the first quarter of 2025. And especially in our community, expectations are skyrocketing to Vengard. A lot has happened since the disappointing playable teaser a few years ago, and there are now various scenes from the old camp, the new camp, the landscapes and newly released locations such as the stone fortress and, and, and. And what we've seen so far looks really, really good.
So it's time for a deep dive! Our Gothic expert Peter Bathge sits on the couch with moderator Daniel Feith to pester Gothic's Development Director Reinhard Pollice with questions until Uriziel slips out of his pocket. The three delve deep into the development history and the improvements that the remake aims to deliver compared to the original. A few talking points:
- How did the Gothic remake even come about?Reinhard explains the obscure history of the Playable Teaser, which in the first draft had nothing to do with Gothic.
- Your own orc camp?!Our guests go into detail about why the Orcs, of all people, gain massive credibility in the remake - right down to the idea of giving the Greenskins their own real camp.
- The swamp camp is still causing problems: Pollice explains how important it is to navigate through the game world and that new and old areas differ in their approach. The swamp camp still causes a bit of trouble, because in the new version the marshland is so believably overgrown that people can no longer see their hand in front of their eyes.
- The characters! In the video we show in detail how much better the characters look compared to the original. Milton's hairstyle is Peter's highlight.
- The Monster! We look at meat bugs, blood flies, lizards, wolves, etc. and discuss with Reinhard why the famous scavengers are among the trickiest design challenges.
In addition to these highlights, the three also address various other topics, such as the extreme expectations of the community when it comes to a passionate topic like Gothic. We talk about daily routines, about the behavior of the NPCs, about negotiations with orcs and, and, and. If you want to go even deeper, we recommend the corresponding cover story by Peter himself:
As I said: You don't have to wait much longer before you can venture into Minental yourself. Until then, please tell us your opinion. Are you looking forward to the remake like a meat bug schnitzel? Do you have reservations and worries because you don't trust the scavenger roast yet? Or have you never heard of Gothic and are wondering why you still read to the end of this article? We want to know.
