2025 will be a really big year for gaming in every respect. At our big streaming event FYNG, we didn't just talk about the important new announcements of major AAA titles in the annual preview. Because next year will also bring the return of well-known gaming brands such as Turok and Bleifuss.
But do these old classics still have a place in today's gaming landscape? Our editors Paul Aeils, Dimitry Halley and Michael Obermeier spoke for you in the live stream about nostalgic memories and analyzed modern demands and the future of these series.
What's it about?
With, and Screamer, the old game series Turok, Thief and Bleifuss will return in a new look next year. In the video, our three experts discuss why these titles were once so popular and how they are reinventing themselves today. You want to know why Thief suddenly offers multiplayer, how Turok wants to save the dinosaur charm and whether Screamer aka Bleifuss is convincing in its cyberpunk look? Then be sure to watch the discussion in the live stream!
Turok - The dinosaurs are back
Instead of a classic first-person shooter, the Turok series returns as a third-person action game with co-op mode. The ability to absorb dinosaur DNA and use futuristic gadgets is a breath of fresh air. This means that the new direction differs greatly from the origins of the series. The mix of classic setting and modern mechanics could be really exciting. Whether she can retain the charm of the series remains to be seen.
Thief: Old strengths, new approach
The spiritual new edition of the Thief series takes a radical step. WithWarren Spector's unofficial sequel moves towards PvP multiplayer, where players compete against both the AI and each other to steal loot. The new concept entails some risks because it has to find the balance between exciting gameplay and the series' previously rather slow tradition. However, a breath of fresh air would be good for the thieves' games.
Bleifuss - Arcade racing is alive
Screamer is also celebrating a comeback, better known here as Bleifuß. With futuristic cyberpunk aesthetics and arcade racing elements, the new edition specifically appeals to fans of classic racing games. In order to stand out from the multitude of modern racing simulations, an independent style is important. The combination of nostalgic elements and a fresh look could make the title an interesting entry in the arcade genre.
Why old brands are coming back
Another central topic of discussion was the question of how old brands can assert themselves in the modern gaming market. Such new editions have to manage the difficult balancing act of both serving the desire for nostalgia but also appealing to new target groups. A successful balancing act can make the difference between a short but not particularly economically successful nostalgia trip and lasting success.
