Radio silence on GTA 6: That's intentional, says an ex-employee of developer Rockstar

It's your fault that we don't hear anything new about GTA 6 - at least that's what a former Rockstar employee says.

It's been almost exactly a year since Rockstar released the highly anticipated trailerpublished. The hype for the game is incredible. The video has now been viewed a record 225 million times on YouTube. But since then we haven't heard anything from Rockstar.

The developers have not shared any new information, trailers or images about the upcoming GTA for a year. A former Rockstar developer now reveals: There is probably a calculation behind this. Because by intentionally withholding informationRockstar stirs up the tensionand gives free rein to the wildest fan speculation.

Why is Rockstar silent?

Mike York, who atas a developer responsible for the animations and an employee at Rockstar for seven years, spoke recentlyon his YouTube channelabout the marketing strategy for GTA 6. He sees the silence of the developersa really cool tactichis former employer:

Withholding info creates excitement, it creates mystery, and it keeps people talking about GTA 6 without the creators having to do anything. The more they stay silent, the better it is, because the more people get upset and want to talk about it. You feel like you don't know what's going to happen.

Of course you could also just put out a trailer or say:Hey, then the next trailer comes. But they don't do that. And that is purely intentional.

In the absence of real information, fans would use their imagination andcome up with the greatest theories, what revolutionary things GTA 6 could offer. And that is exactly the best marketing for the upcoming gangster sandbox. The game will therefore remain a constant topic of conversation for many players. In any case, this marketing strategy worked perfectly with GTA 5, says York.

According to Rockstar, nothing has changed in the targeted release date for GTA 6. The studio plans to release the latest installment in its action game series in the second half of 2025. The release date will probably be at the end of the year, during the lucrative Christmas business.

When released, GTA 6 will initially only be available for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. A PC version has not yet been publicly communicated, but is considered safe. It will probably follow the console release.
