For iPhone and Android: Hold down 123 button is one of the most practical shortcuts that I didn't know

You never learn. Even if I have been familiar with the iPhone for more than a third of my lifetime, I still discover new functions and shortcuts that I didn't know before.

For example, the small but fine trick that colleague Mirco showed me to enter numbers and special characters on the iPhone faster.

My thought:That also works on Android? Jap, even if the tip for Google's operating system is more suitable for special characters. But in turn.

Tap numbers and special characters on iPhone (and Android) faster, that's how it works

  1. Hold your finger on the »123 key« - the layout changes to numbers and special characters (still not let go!).
  2. Tap numbers and/or special characters and only then let go of the »123 key«. The layout now jumps back automatically and you can continue typing letters.
  3. It is even faster by holding the "123 key" down and wiping the same finger over the numbers with the same finger. Then let go, change the keyboard automatically back to the letters.

Alternative: If you enter a number and/or special characters and then tap on the space bar, the layout also jumps back automatically.

However, this is not explicitly wanted in every situation, which in many cases personally makes the shortcut extremely practical.

As promised in the heading and the introduction, the tip also works for Android (Gboard). Due to the adaptation options of the keyboard, the number series can usually be inserted in the settings, so that the small trick looks superfluous in this regard.

For the fast typing of special characters, "Hold down 123 button" is still ideal for the Android operating system.

Notice: Depending on the keyboard used, this keyboard trick is unfortunately not available. In our test, for example, it does not work with the Samsung keyboard.

Bonus tip: Tap the point including spaces faster

Speaking of faster. You may have not received any wind from a function. For iPhone and Android, there is a short command in the operating system to quickly and easily insert a point with space at the end of a word or sentence.

The magic:»Double tap the spacebar«.

Try it out! You can also deactivate the option in the keyboard settings.

For iPhone:

  • Open the settings and taps under "General" on "keyboard".
  • Removes the hook for "". "-Short command".

For Android (Gboard):

  • Open the settings and select the "keyboard" item under "System".
  • Now tap on "screen keyboard" and in this case choose "Gboard".
  • Now switch to "text correction" and remove the hook for "replace double spaces".
