Diablo 4: The death of a hardcore character becomes an unsolvable murder case for a player

The player will probably never find out which abomination was responsible for the death of the hardcore character.

The risk of losing your character forever is the appeal, but also the greatest danger, of Hardcore mode. When your hero dies, you can only look at him in the menu and realize with horror how many hours have actually been lost.

The game also tells you who put an end to your attempt at hardcore - usually.

“Murderer unknown”

Reddit user FunkDaddyRabbit lost his hardcore characterafter 21 hours and 19 minutes, although he will never know who was responsible for this act. Where Diablo 4 actually reveals which monster or boss is responsible, it just says“Murderer unknown”.

“Sounds like a murder mystery,” jokesQJustCallMeQin the comments and FunkDaddyRabbit replies, "I wish we could play a little like a sandbox in this game so we could do some Scooby-Doo style mischief like that."

Unfortunately, the two of them don't even need to get Shaggy, Velma and Daphne together because there will be no solution to this murder case. Once a HC character is dead, you can no longer log in with them. Not that it would be of any use, as Diablo 4 doesn't have a battle log to look at.

Things get even worse

FunkDaddyRabbit can at least invent a heroic death for his character, but Reddit users don't think soNo-Baker-7510, who confesses in a comment: »My HC character died this season at the hands of the training dummies. I didn’t know that could happen.”

Since the training dummies can cause damage to the player to test the player's armor and resistances, it is also possible to die from them in hardcore mode. No-Baker-7510 wanted to find out if his characteris ready for torment level 4. Diablo 4 gave him the rather painful realization that this apparently isn't the case.

StevenSmokingHowever, has a few encouraging words for the two of them: "Just in time, Path of Exile 2 starts on December 6th." This week the action role-playing game goes into early access on Steam, Epic, PlayStation and Xbox, if you want to be there, but you have to spend at least 30 euros. You can find out what is important to know about the PoE 2 supporter packs and of course the game in the articles at the top of the box.
