The German Counter-Strike scene mourns one of its big ones: Tobias "Mc_t" Frey died at the age of only 38 on the consequences of incurable cancer. With him, the community not only loses a former professional player, but also the most important chronicler in German CS history.
The career of MC_T
Tobias Frey discovered his love for Counter-Strike at the age of twelve and initially shaped the scene as a player. In the early 2000s he was active for well-known teams such as Starcoma, DKH and Ocrana and mixed up properly in the German eSports landscape.
But his greatest legacy should only be created many years later.
During the 2020 Corona pandemic, Tobias started his YouTube channelBook of Counter-Strike- without any advertising, out of pure passion for the game and its history. Here he documented the development of Counter-Strike, interviewed scene legends like CS inventor Gooseman and, with his documentaries, created a unique archive for everyone who wants to know how it all started and where the scene developed.
Especially his one -hour documentary »Mythos Counter-Strike" andThe big anniversary documentation for the 25th birthday of the gamewere celebrated by the community.
The fight against cancer
In January 2024, Tobias received a devastating diagnosis: Angiosarcoma in the right atrium, a rare and aggressive heart tumor. Despite all the efforts, it quickly became clear that the disease is not curable. But instead of withdrawing, Tobias remained active,his story opened openly with the communityAnd worked on his heart project until the end, the documentation for the 25th anniversary of Counter-Strike.
He revealed his last wish inInterviewWith picture: The German scene may become stronger again and get involved internationally. Tobias no longer had any material wishes. He was grateful for every day without severe pain and even planned to marry his long -time girlfriend.
On April 16, 2025, his brother informed the community about Tobias' death. One last video was published on the channel - a digital farewell letter to all companions and fans:
