You have chosen the best GTA of all time - and the lead over second place is clear

Your voice has been heard: The best GTA is... not Grand Theft Auto 5. At least not if you evaluate the online part separately.

We wanted to know from GameStar readers which part of the GTA series you remember best.Over 2,200 Grand Theft Auto fansvoted in the survey. In the first two places are two games that are each over 20 years old.

But wait: depending on how you count, this can also happen againalmost twelve year old GTA 5secure the top spot, even if only by a razor-thin margin.

The problem with the duplicate GTA 5

Are GTA 5 and GTA Online the same game? There are different perspectives on this. The enormously successful multiplayer mode of Rockstar's action-adventure cannot be played without first having a version ofto acquire.

However, the online version has long since developed into its own sandbox with completely different rules than the single-player campaign. We even have it in the GameStar databasefor the two components of the game.

We have this condition in ourstaken into account by separate selection options for GTA 5 and GTA Online. If you add up their results, there are 664 votes. These are exact30 votes more than the nominal first placethe survey.

Who is the winner now?

If we go strictly by the selection of the individual games, an even older GTA part won: the one released in 2004. 634 readers voted for the greatest Grand Theft Auto at the time of publication.

Thanks to mechanics such as the hero's waist circumference, which changes depending on his diet, San Andreas is considered an absolute model of open-world freedom and role-playing. User knusperziweback writes: »San Andreas was the game that blew me away. This size, this freedom... it's simply unbelievable what Rockstar achieved back then.«

They then follow clearly behindfrom 2002 and the one published in 2008. With a view to the technically very similar parts of San Andreas and Vice City, reader Real Geizt writes in the comments:

»Actually, I would have to call both parts my “favorite GTA”. San Andreas was pretty impressive. The size of the map completely blew my mind back then, the story was great... But... Vice City was absolutely my thing in terms of setting!«

An estimated 90 percent of players are currently waiting for Rockstar's next prank.is expected to be released at the end of 2025, but could shift even further. In the background, game publishers from all over the world are already preparing to adjust the release date of their games so as not to get in the way of the open-world mammoth.

At the same time, GTA 6 also arouses a lot of desire, as a high purchase price could be too higha general price increaselead, so the speculation goes. You can read more about this in the articles linked above.
