CPU market shares: AMD caught up with a powerful tool according to the popular tool - but not yet Intel

Intel vs. AMD: According to the CPU-Z, Ryzen is still a little behind, but also caught up properly for the previous year.

One of the most popular, because the simplest tools for reading your own hardware information is CPU-Z. In addition to the pure display, users can also have the results validated, which are then recorded in a large database.

In the period of the past three months, a clear trend in the processors emerges.

According to theValidation data from CPU-ZIntel is still ahead with the processors:

  • 56.3 percentAll cast CPU data comes from the California semiconductor manufacturer.
  • The rest43.7 percentNaturally come from AMD.

The sticking point on this statistics: In the previous year comparison, the gap between AMD and Intel was even significantly larger. As a result, AMD (2024: 37.5 percent) Growing around 16.6 percent compared to the same period last year, while Intel (2024: 62.5 percent) Lied around 10 percent.

The causes cannot be determined exactly on the basis of the available data, but the arrival of the Ryzen 7 9800x3d last year is expected to be the driving force behind the AMD upswing.

This is also shown by a look at the currently most popular CPU at CPU-Z: Of course it is the Ryzen 7 9800x3d, which only makes 4.3 percent of all processors in the number of validation data in a six-figure number.

Another change at the top of statistics fits. Referred to the number of cores, more and more PC owners seem to switch to a CPU with eight cores, which now make up the largest share.

  • 24.7 percent of all processor data has had a model with eight cores - which also includes the Ryzen 7 9800x3d and its predecessor. In the same period last year, this was still around 18.6 percent.
  • This refers to second place in second place, which "only" make up 22.5 percent. In the previous year it was around 24.2 percent (-6.9 percent in the yoy).
  • Two other categories with double-digit percentage wins: According to the CPU-Z, 16- and 20-core are enjoying increasing popularity.

What about you? You have also switched from Intel to AMD in the past few months; Are you satisfied with your (apparently likely) 8-core? Let us know in the comments!
