Christopher Nolan's new film is dedicated to one of humanity's oldest stories

Christopher Nolan's new film is officially announced.The director of films like,ornext adapts one of humanity's oldest stories: Homer's Odyssey.

The project currently has the unsurprising titleThe Odyssey. With Hollywood greats like Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland, a large part of the cast has already been confirmed.

Am17 July 2026The blockbuster will then appear in cinemas.

What is The Odyssey about?

The poem The Odyssey by the Greek poet Homer dates from the eighth century BC. It tells the story of King Odysseus of Ithaca, who begins his journey home after defeating Troy. On the way he meets many mythical creatures.

Early 2025 filming should begin.The cast so far consists of a few well-known names:

According to established industry insider Jeff Sneider, The Odyssey will be Nolan's most expensive film. The superhero film The Dark Knight currently has this title for the directoran estimated budget of $250-300 milliongot (viaComing Soon).

Previous film adaptations

The poem has been filmed a few times before, including as a silent film by Giuseppe de Liguoro (L'inferno, King Lear) or as a satirical comedy filmO Brother, Where Art Thou?with George Clooney (Up in the Air, Monuments Men) and Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk, Leaves of Grass).

WithThe ReturnThe latest adaptation only flickered across the screens of US cinemas in December 2024. There Ralph Fiennes (Schindler's List, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2) played the title hero Odysseus. The director was Uberto Pasolini (All or Not at All, Nowhere Special).

Most recently, Christopher Nolan bagged a lot of Oscars with his project Oppenheimer - including for best director. Matt Damon, who played one of the main roles in the biographical historical film, was also there.

It remains to be seen whether the director will achieve another direct hit.
