They marched in large numbers -Almost 6,000 Tolkien disciplesgathered to answer one of the most delicate questions in fantasy history:?

The struggle for the title was just as epic as the starting material itself-and in the end decided, as so often with Peter Jackson's Middle-earth saga,A huge battleAbout fame and honor.

BecauseThe middle part of the trilogyNamed "The two towers", with 27 percent of the votes (1,615 votes), briefly torn the ring - sorry, victory.

Close to the heels: "The return of the king", also with 27 percent (1,601 votes).A total of 14 votesSo decide on first place. Such a marginal difference that even Gandalf raises the eyebrow:

A battle for eternity

In retrospect, the result should not be surprised, after all, "the two towers" with the battle for Helms Klamm created a masterpiece of action and drama, which in Hollywood should be absolutely style-building for future battle epipers.

But "the two towers" has more than just pounding: Gollums tragic change, the tragedy of Rohan's riders, Legolas' Olympic tie arrow and arch ballet dance.

It is also logical that the grand finale "The Return of the King" was only a touch. A trilogy cannot be ended much better than with this massive crescendo.

The companions in 3rd place - but with dignity!

Apart from this duel, the trilogy start of "The companions" falls behind a little and ends up in third place with 22 percent (1,316 votes). In the end, the five percent difference is nothing that is underlined by the almost as often selected fourth survey response (22 percent, 1,286 votes).

Because about a fifth of all survey participants, the question of the best gentleman of the ring film answered "I cannot decide, all three think it is equally good". These people understood the true meaning of the trilogy.

The Lord of the Rings is like the one ring - without the beginning and end, perfect in its entirety. And he still drives the masses into the dark of the home cinema 22 years after the final to tie them forever - or at least for 715 minutes (extended editions).
