As part of its WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference) developer conference, Apple uses the opening keynote to present the new operating systems for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Co. every year.
This year theWWDC25 on June 9thinstead of howApple in a blog postannounced on your own website.
And it could finally be exciting again, thereshould come.
For 14 years-but the WoW effect is missing
I myself have followed the Apple keynote on the WWDC for around 14 years. In 2010 I bought the first Apple device with the iPhone 4 and have been looking forward to new features every year since my first WWDC.
But this moment of euphoria has not occurred for a long time. Admittedly, the last almost twelve years ago.
At that time, Apple presented on the WWDC iOS 7. The operating system came with an optical general overhaul, which was very strongly off on the previous versions.
For me, it felt like I was holding a new smartphone in my hands after the update.
I was very satisfied with the design introduced at the time, but after about two years I thought: Well, now something new could come again.
More than a decade standstill: iOS still looks like back then
I've been waiting for this for ten years now, because the iOS operating system looks even more or less today as in 2013.
Sure, numerous new functions have been added and of course new wallpapers, menus and small changes to the icons.
However, the design language itself remained more or less the same and it now has a little old -fashioned on me.
I still have an iPhone X with iOS 16 in the drawer and the homescreen looks just the same as on iOS 18.
A new iPhone no longer feels new
This is also a reason why the feelings of happiness quickly fly away from me when buying a new iPhone.
Of course, it is more powerful and offers, for example, a slightly better camera, but everything else looks the same somehow - that is bored.
I recently bought another iPhone 4 for beaten 15 euros for nostalgic reasons. I installed iOS 6 on it, i.e. the operating system in front of the redesign.
Even today I have to say that a completely different design has an enormous effect on me.
In my view, iOS 6 no longer really fits into the present day-even if I still find it quite chic-but the flat design of iOS 7 is slowly earning an end, right?
iOS 19 should be based on visionos
I therefore hope that Apple really takes courage with iOS 19 and surprises us with a completely new design.
According to rumors, the manufacturer could take over the design language of visionos and revise icons, menus, apps, windows and buttons accordingly. The elements would then be rounded and offer a glass effect.
Either way: I am full of it, because then my almost four year old iPhone 13 Pro would finally feel like a new smartphone again.
What do you promise from the WWDC? Do you also look forward to a possible redesign of iOS 19 or do you care about the look of the operating system and do you attach great importance to new functions? Give me your opinion in the comments.
