By the time the first part of the at least partially legendary Alien film series was released in cinemas in 1979, skinny, gray Roswell aliens were boring stuff from yesterday. The artist HR Giger, who was endowed with a disturbing imagination, created the film aliens as frightening killing machines that humans actually didn't have much to counter.
Except of course Ellen Ripley, flamethrowers and other war equipment. This triggers animal instincts: the inferior wins over the stronger. “A full pound in the mouth” is incredibly satisfying when your mouth has SO many teeth.
Although it relies on sci-fi horror elements, at heart it is a shooter with small puzzles and frightening opponents. The much larger opponent in the game is more in the details.
Suits you if...
- ... you like atmospheric single-player shooters with moments of surprise.
- ... aliens are your favorite species and you toast your toast with the flamethrower.
- ... you don't want to waste time with complex puzzles.
Doesn't suit you if...
- ... you put a motion detector above your bed for fear of jump scares.
- ...you would rather fight with your brain than with a gun.
- ... good controls in VR are more important to you than atmosphere.
History anchored in the larger canon

Published in 2014has been around for quite some time thanks to oneamazingly simple modalso playable in virtual reality. And in the meantime it must have caused some underpants to be washed shamefully.
